Steps in Committing and Pushing files into your Github folder (For beginners)

Steps in Committing and Pushing files into your Github folder.

Prerequisite:

1) Github account

2) Github folder

3) Stata

4) Github for Windows (Git GUI)

 

In this case, I am using a do file written using Stata software:

Steps

1. Copy the do file (e.g: XXX.do)

2. Paste into local Github folder (D:My Documents – KIMFirstGit)

3. Open Git GUI

4. Click Rescan

5. Move the do gile from ‘Unstaged Changes’ to ‘Staged Changes (Will Commit)’

6. Write something in the ‘Commit Message’

7. Click Commit

8. Click ‘Push’

9. A window pop-up ‘Push Branches’

10. Click ‘Push’

11. Fill in ‘username’

12. Fill in ‘password’

13. The window pop-up ‘Push Branches’ writes ‘Success’

14. Click ‘Close’

15. Go to your Github eg: [https://github.com/drkamarul/FirstGit]

16. Click ‘Refresh’ on browser

17. You will see your latest file
